Bro...
For the first time in nearly a decade, it feels as though we have left an NFL weekend without the NFL being the top story in sports. It was a refreshing twist on an already twist-heavy season (BY GAWWD, THAT'S MICHAEL VICK'S MUSIC!) even though the most talked about story of the weekend was a fight between teammates (Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon). I won't get into it too much. since this is still a football post after all, but I'd expect Papelbon to be on another team other than the Washington Nationals in 2016.

The cover of the newest novel, 50 Shades of Bryce Harper.
I know I said I was done talking about it, but we're coming off of a surprisingly quiet football weekend and I don't think the nation has been as pumped for the baseball playoffs to start ASAP since the McGwire-Sosa years. It's really great to see perennial failures like the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates in real-life World Series contention and I would gladly keep my television tuned to playoff baseball over the dreadful mistake that is Thursday Night Football.

About that football league... Aschebrook Senior (no relation to Steve Smith Senior) has built a team as strong as the New England Patriots as his team is scoring points like he wants revenge on all of us even though we've never played in a league with him (officially). What's his deal and why is his team so filled with rage? I don't know, but things could always turn sour (or super sweet for the 0-3 teams) like when New England was pronounced dead at this point last year. They only went on to win a Super Bowl. Team Tiffany has had DeSean Jackson in his lineup for three weeks despite a hamstring injury and despite everything I just said about the first three weeks not defining a season, Josh is in trouble of turning in a Bak-like season and I would be shocked to see him drop a 150-point game on anyone with his Broncos under-performing and Jackson still on the mend. All anybody needs is a few waiver moves to kick their seasons into gear or completely screw with their lineup after giving up on someone too soon. Fantasy Football is just as unpredictable as the real thing.

Week 2
Our 2nd semi-official season of blaming Cole Walters for DraftKings.com sponsored by FanDuel.com

CORRECTION: Week 1's tie was broken by a stat correction on what turned out to be a fumble recovery by Antonio Cromartie of the Jets defense, thus resulting in a pity-win for Evan and a no-mercy-despite-your-underwhelming-counterpart loss for Scott.

Bro...
It's a good thing that penalties do not count negatively towards fantasy, because there would be final scores featuring negative point totals for every match-up this year. Good lord, the amount of flags I've seen thrown on otherwise productive plays for fantasy has been ridiculous. Frank Gore lost four points to holding calls, DeMarco Murray lost a touchdown and the pace of the game has seemingly never been slower. I think the NFL introduced a bunch of rules at the last minute or placed emphasis on every minor call the referees typically ignored in the past. If this pace keeps up, the game will become un-watchable and I'll just take my surprise fantasy points while going out and -GASP- actually doing something with my Sundays. I think I just need to channel my frustrations through paper mache'.

Photo of Andy Todd in five years. It's going to be a rough five years.
This week's slate of games featured one of the worst games ever between Dallas and Philadelphia and along with it, a ton of concern for plenty of fantasy owners. Can DeMarco Murray maintain his 21 carry for 11 yard pace? Is Sam Bradford the worst Quarterback in the NFL? Who even is Ryan Mathews? If all of those panic-triggers weren't enough, Tony Romo broke his clavicle again and is out for at least 8 weeks. That leaves 1-1 Frick The Haters one QB thinner with Big 'Ole Ben Rottenburger as the every-week starter. Romo wasn't the only Quarterback who left Sunday's "action" on the injury report as Drew Brees did something to his clavicle and is now going to miss anywhere between zero and fourteen games. Too much gumbo has left Sneen and his Machine screaming "Shake it off!" as Sneen is probably not ready to trust Colin Kaepernick on a week-to-week basis. Oh, and Jay Cutler got hurt (sorry Alec, it's a good thing you cut him beforehand), Andrew Luck was terrible and that all happened while the Jaguars, Browns, Washington, Raiders and Buccaneers all won, effectively eliminating me from my eliminator pool. This week was a goddamn train-wreck.

I'm not sure what this is called yet (something witty)
It has been 268 days (as I am typing this) since Ryan Tannehill graduated into a Ryan Tannemountain and led owner Nick Zurawski's Go Columbia, Screw Cal team to a win over Sneen Machine. Many things have changed in those 268 days, including the reinstatement of perennial All-Pro Running Back Adrian Peterson, a whole bunch of pointless discussion on gas laws and quite possibly the largest incoming group of fantasy-relevant rookies since... well, last year. The biggest earth-shattering change of the off-season, despite all those topics, was the tumultuous loss of three perfectly fine fantasy team owners (and Bak) and the last-second rush to replace them. Thankfully through the connections of Bro League commissioner Nick Zurawski and assistant Scott Aschebrook, the league was resurrected and even improved a tad by bumping up the league size to ten. Joining the league this season are Josh Tiffany, Alec Swanson, Evan Moon, Cole Walters-Hitler IV, Alex Silka and Darrin Aschebrook (Aschebrook Sr., Father Aschebrook, etc.). It's going to get good.

NOW! This year's draft was a doozy as we were not even sure who would show up, be available or even slightly aware as to who all of the team owners might be (at least, I wasn't) and it wasn't until the very last minute that all ten team owners were huddled in front of a computer, set to make their picks. Why not have an actual gathering at Buffalo Wild Wings like last season? Cole Walters. I was not aware until what I had assumed was going to be the evening of the draft that the wings & picks would not happen and when I found out, I took off my Vincent Jackson jersey and joined a random ESPN league to feed my addiction to this fake sport of real players and sometimes cash. Despite all the chaos, the online draft was still alive in trash talk and general league discussions one would come to expect (trades, why Cole Walters is the worst, league trophy possibilities).

Week one saw Andy Todd with an incredible comeback win over Cole thanks to two trade acquisitions the day before the season started (Julio Jones & Carlos Hyde), Rapmaster Nicky Z return to dominance as he scored the second-highest point total against Sneen and his Machine, a very solid showing from nearly everyone on Team Silka as Tyler Eifert was the only player to excel on Ron Swanson's lost nephew's team, Aschebrook Sr. winning thanks to an injury to Josh's receiver DeSean Jackson and of course, a tie. Wait... A tie in week one? Yes, a tie in week one between the two lowest scoring teams! That should almost be illegal, but after reviewing the rulebook, it isn't. The only match-up that made me scratch my head at the end of the weekend was Team Aschebrook and Team Moon both scoring eighty points thanks to a garbage-time catch from Viking (and Team Moon) WR Charles Johnson. Fantasy football is pretty bizarre sometimes.

Trades made before Week 1: Scott traded RB Carlos Hyde & WR Demayius Thomas to Andy for RB Jamaal Charles & WR Golden Tate.

Scott traded RB Adrian Peterson, WR Brandon Marshall & TE Greg Olsen to Moon for RB Arian Foster, WR Julio Jones & TE Dwayne Allen

Scott traded WR Julio Jones to Andy for WR Demaryius Thomas

Trade made after Week 1: Scott traded WR's A.J. Green, Demaryius Thomas, Larry Fitzgerald & Terrance Williams to Alec for RB Marshawn Lynch & WR Dez Bryant (Alec simultaneously released WR Brian Quick and TE Julius Thomas)

2015 NFL Predictions (Super Bowl 50 and All!)

Another off-season and preseason have come and gone! Chip Kelly sent Eagles fans on a wild ride, J.J. Watt's celebrity rose and we all learned about gas laws. What does any of it mean? None of us know for sure yet, but it's time to make predictions at the risk of looking like a total moron. I won't get in-depth as I tried last season, but I'll make sure to give you team records and a super bowl winner by the end of it all.

Miami Dolphins (12-4, 1st in AFC East, Rd.1 Bye)

MY OFFICIAL SUPER BOWL PREDICTION
Packers 38 - Patriots 20
Super Bowl picks are almost never exciting if you want to be at least close to 100% correct. Last year's New England v. San Francisco pick was close, but my "boldness" in picking San Francisco seriously backfired. Green Bay didn't do anything obviously amazing this off-season other than re-sign their most important players (Randall Cobb and Bryan Bulaga) and with one tragic preseason injury, they've basically replaced Jordy Nelson with James Jones (although Jones' role will be much smaller and Davante Adams is more likely to take the place of Nelson). New England lost a bunch of key help in their Super Bowl XLIX win, but I'm done doubting Bill Belichick or Tom Brady (especially pissed off Tom Brady). Even though I have picked Miami to win the division, I have the Dolphins losing in the AFC Championship game because I did not want to be THAT bold this year (clearly).

Super Bowl MVP: QB Aaron Rodgers

In a year of Super Bowl re-matches, Green Bay re-defeats New England in a re-match of Super Bowl 31.
Best of luck this season to all of your teams! (especially the teams I picked to win often)
