My Top 250 in Fantasy Football

Fantasy football is an incredible thing that we, american football fans, have. When you look around the world and see the news of protesting in Ferguson, Missouri or an epidemic of Ebola tearing apart African countries, it's pretty fascinating and surreal that this is all happening on the same planet where something as minute and unimportant as fantasy football can exist. As of this week, the last of the National Guard has left Ferguson and while ebola is still a major epidemic in west Africa, it is a very localized disease that has barely left that area. I've only been able to keep up with bits and pieces of both of these stories since, like you the reader, I have work to do and places to be that prevent me from spending all of my waking minutes working on this small blog or reading in-depth information from various news websites. There has been no solution to either the issues expressed by the protestors in Ferguson nor has there been a major breakthrough in the progress to help those in west Africa during this outbreak. Both of these sad stories did not have a solution yet and that's just awful. With that said, this is why we need to keep ourselves positive and occupy our time when we're not hearing about the depressing news and as always, sports is an entertaining escape. Fantasy sports exists for the same reason that sports exist, it gives us all a break from our weekday grind of mundane jobs, scary news, and anything else that makes us feel less optimistic as a whole. This is my eleventh season of fantasy football and it's one of my favorite times of the year.

Without further ado, here are my Top 250 picks in fantasy football for your 2014 Labor Day weekend drafts.

I leave you with one piece of advice... or three.

1. Stay Away from the less-obvious Patriots.

Guys like Brandon LaFell (above), Stevan Ridley, and Danny Amendola aren't must-haves and should be avoided at all costs.
Do you feel comfortable in any Patriots not named Brady, Vereen, Edelman, or Gronkowski? You shouldn't. This team is completely unpredictable. I mean... they just traded Logan Mankins for a 4th and a Tight End! I'm staying away from the injury-risk of Amendola and guys on the roster-bubble like Brandon LaFell, Stevan Ridley, Kenbrell Thompkins, and I don't like Aaron Dobson either.

2. Don't Take Calvin Johnson in the first round, Please. I know you want to, just don't.

Matthew Stafford's favorite target isn't guaranteed 16 games.
Don't get me wrong, he'll be excellent and a top three receiver no matter what while he's healthy. The problem I have is that Megatron went through a lot of knee issues that did end up costing him two games and while, he did have surgery on both his knee and finger, we have yet to see Demaryius Thomas injured and he's right there with Johnson as the top receivers statistically in the NFL. I'd take Demaryius if I'm going WR in the first round.

3. I have some deep sleeper names for you. Go ahead and continue at your own risk, just don't fall madly in love with all of them

Want deep sleepers that I DID rank but love a little bit irrationally for their fantasy value?

Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson
Seahawks WR Paul Richardson
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce
Titans QB Jake Locker
Giants RB Andre Williams

This is Paul Richardson. His hands are made out of glue.

Want deep sleepers that are completely off the board and I think could end up doing something?

Browns QB Johnny Manziel
Steelers RB Dri Archer
49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (more of a dynasty-league guy)
Chargers RB Branden Oliver
Dolphins RB Orleans Darkwa (I just like his name and his preseason has gone gravy)
Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon (he'll come back eventually, right? RIGHT!?)
Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (If the above never comes true)
Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins
The Dolphins Defense

Good luck on your Labor Day weekend drafts and may the fantasy football gods be with you!

Preseason Overreactions! Week 3

This is the final preseason overreaction piece.

There's only one jam-packed Thursday of preseason "action" left. After that day of games, Saturday at 3 PM CT is the deadline for teams to cut down to 53-man rosters. Once those 22 last-minute cuts are made, everyone will rush to do their fantasy football drafts. This can mean only one thing: Andy Todd's Official Fantasy Football Rankings are coming up instead of a fourth week of preseason overreactions. Let's not worry about that for now, here are week 3's results with overreactions.

Mitch Stringer/USA Today Sports
What does Kirk Cousins need to do in order to win the starting job? It involves a trap-door and convincing RG3 to come over for a "party"

Eagles defeat Steelers 31-21
The Eagles starters dominated, as did the Steelers reserves.

Which starter looked the best?: WR Jeremy Maclin of the Eagles caught six passes for 43 yards on targets, without any going longer than nine yards. We have yet to see Maclin play a regular-season game in a Chip Kelly-led offense and if this game gives us any sign of how he'll be used, Maclin might turn his style into a Wes Welker-like slot receiver. The Eagles won't miss DeSean Jackson for anything other than speed and alleged gang ties. HONORABLE MENTION: The entire Eagles O-Line. 182 yards rushing and one sack allowed.

Which starter looked the worst?: Le'Veon Bell played despite being arrested 48 hours before the game and I suppose his punishment was playing in this game (10 touches, 26 yards).

Backup of the Game: Former-TCU Running Back, Matthew Tucker, might not make the team's final roster but, he's made his case for other teams lacking runners (Houston). Tucker had 10 carries for 46 yards and 2 touchdowns but, some of that might be inflated thanks to Philly's excellent offensive line.

Philly's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: TE Blake Annen, OL Michael Bamiro, OL Karim Barton, WR Kadron Boone, WR B.J. Cunningham, OL Donald Hawkins, TE Emil Igwenagu, LB Jake Knott, DE Joe Kruger, S Daytawion Lowe, DE Frances Mays, S Davon Morgan, K Carey Spear, DE Alejandro Villanueva

Pittsburgh's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: RB Jordan Hall, RB Miguel Maysonet, WR C.J. Goodwin, WR Kashif Moore, TE Eric Waters, S Jordan Dangerfield, CB Devin Smith, CB Lewis Toler, LB Vic So'oto

Now, I didn't get to watch much of this game since I was doing a fantasy draft at Buffalo Wild Wings BUT I definitely heard a Biggest Overreaction: "Forget LeSean McCoy, Henry Josey is where it's at!"

Patriots defeat Panthers 30-7
Cam Newton gets injured as Shane Vereen injures Carolina's defensive pride.

Which starter looked the best?: Tom Brady, Shane Vereen, Julian Edelman, and Chandler Jones. I never really thought about anyone being a Super Bowl contender out of the AFC besides the Denver Broncos until I saw this game on Friday. With the addition of Darrelle Revis, a fully healthy Rob Gronkowski and a receiving corps that has one more year of experience with Brady, New England is one Denver slip-up away from the super bowl.

Which starter looked the worst?: The Panthers' offensive line. With the losses of Jordan Gross, Geoff Hangartner, and Travelle Wharton (all retired), it should come as no surprise that this younger o-line had less success than their predecessors. This is Carolina's one glaring weakness (the receiving problem is over-blown) and they'll need to fix it if they want Cam Newton to stay healthy along with another playoff run.

Backup of the Game: Pats Linebacker Steve Beauharnais (3 tackles, 2 solo, 61-yard INT) has been making plays all preseason long and added onto that with a 61-yard interception off Derek Anderson in this game.

New England's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: LB James Anderson, DL Tommy Kelly, DL Will Smith, TE Justin Jones

Carolina's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Tiquan Underwood, WR Toney Clemons, P Jordan Gay, DT Linden Gaydosh, DE Alex Hall, OT Oscar Johnson, WR Marvin McNutt, LB Anthony Morales, WR Kealoha Pilares, DE Craig Roh

Biggest Overreaction: The Panthers were a fluke last year, there's no way Cam Newton stays healthy behind this offensive line.

Giants defeat Jets 35-24
The battle for New York ends in Corey Washington catching his fourth TD in four games.

Which starter looked the best?: Giants' DE Damontre Moore has been crushing it this preseason as he racked up 4 more tackles along with another 2 sacks and a fumble recovery against the Jets. This team night not be lost on the D-Line after all.

Which starter looked the worst?: Jets Wide Receiver Stephen Hill caught one pass on four targets and continues to look like nothing but a disappointment. There have been some rumors about the possibility of Hill getting traded but, Rex Ryan has denied any and all Hill trade rumors.

Backup of the Game: QB Ryan Nassib (8/12-103-3-0) has finally had his first strong preseason in three years of backing up Eli Manning. Nassib has built quite a repertoire with WR Corey Washington, who has caught a touchdown pass in all four preseason games. Tom Coughlin can feel comfortable headed into the regular season with Nassib as his #2 QB.

Giant Cuts to a 75-man Roster: LB Justin Anderson, DE Emmanuel Dieke, LB Spencer Adkins, DB C.J. Barnett, TE Jerome Cunningham, DT Everett Dawkins, TE Xavier Grimble, WR Travis Harvey, DB Charles James, K Brandon McManus, DB Kyle Sebetic, G John Sullen, DB Ross Weaver

Jet Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Jacoby Ford, TE Colin Anderson, FB Chad Young, DE Anthony Grady, CB Ras-I Dowling, T Bruce Campbell, LB Steele Divitto, OL Patrick Ford, K Andrew Furney, P Jacob Schum, RB Michael Smith, OL Markus Zusevics

Biggest Overreaction: The Jets couldn't even muster up the energy to beat the Giants? Pack your bags, Rex Ryan.

Lions defeat Jaguars 13-12
The Lions sneak out a low-scoring win over their fellow catbros.

Which starter looked the best?: Lions' RB Reggie Bush finished with two carries for 95 yards including a 9-yard run and an 86-yard touchdown run. He looked like the Reggie Bush of USC. That said, it was only two carries against a mediocre defense. Nobody else among the starters stood out so, Bush runs away with this one (literally).

Which starter looked the worst?: Jags' DT Red Bryant was signed to a 4-year $17-million contract to be the run stopper/enforcer he was in Seattle's Defensive Line for the past six seasons. Instead, he just looks kind of past his prime already (1 tackle). Granted, Defensive Tackles aren't typically the talk of the town but with the money and expectations they have in Bryant, they hope that he can show up occasionally in the regular season.

Backup of the Game: Lions' LB Tahir Whitehead (11 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 other tackle for loss) went nuts in this game. Jim Caldwell's coaching staff is impressed and they have Whitehead moving up the depth chart quickly.

Detroit's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: G Alex Bullard, G A.J. Dalton, DT Gregory Hickman, RB Steven Miller, DE Kris Redding, WR Conner Vernon, QB James Franklin, FB Chad Abram, P Drew Butler, CB Jonte Green, CB Aaron Hester and K Giorgio Tavecchio

Jacksonville's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: CB Mike Harris, WR Ramses Barden, LB Allen Bradford, G Antoine Caldwell, LB Josh Hull, RB Harvey Unga, S Joe Young, C Patrick Lewis, DT David Carter, LS Charley Hughlett, WR Kenny Shaw

Biggest Overreaction: Hey man, did you see Reggie Bush? Dude could outrun a cheetah! He'll lead the league in rushing if he keeps this up! (He won't)

Packers defeat Raiders 31-21
Matt Schaub gets extra-conservative and it makes him look extra-sloppy.

Which starter looked the best?: With five tackles, 2 for a loss, and an interception, the #5 overall pick in May's draft, LB Khalil Mack, looked like the beast many were projecting we'd see as soon as he hit the football field. I like his odds for Defensive Rookie of the Year if Jadeveon Clowney hits a rookie wall at some point.

Which starter looked the worst?: Does Oakland even have a Quarterback worth starting in Week one? I don't think they do outside of MAYBE Matt McGloin. As far as Matt Schaub (13/27-110-0-0) goes, this guy's career is basically over. The days of Matt Schaub somehow leading a team to the playoffs are over and Schaub has turned into the last-days-in-Carolina Jake Delhomme. He kept throwing little three yard dump-offs and they were either dropped by the receivers (not his fault) or ridiculously off-target (his fault). I'm setting the over/under at 6.5 games started by Schaub this season. The problem with Oakland is... I could easily see this going over.

Backup of the Game: Raiders' Receiver Brice Butler has had very little opportunity to showcase his abilities during the regular season but he helped Matt McGloin & company make a mini-comeback in the 4th quarter, catching 3 passes for 60 yards with two of those catches scoring touchdowns.

Green Bay's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: S Charles Clay, CB Antonio Dennard, WR Chris Harper, LB Korey Jones, TE Colt Lyerla, FB Ina Liaina, QB Chase Rettig, WR Gerrard Sheppard

Oakland's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: TE Kyle Auffray, OT Emmett Cleary, LB Justin Cole, WR Mike Davis, DT Torell Troup, WR Rahsaan Vaughn, CB Jansen Watson, QB Trent Edwards, WR Juron Criner, S Larry Asante, WR Greg Jenkins, RB Kory Sheets, OL Lucas Nix

Biggest Overreaction: Rodgers only completed 9 of 20 passes? He misses JerMichael Finley and James Jones. He'll never succeed without them.

Seahawks defeat Bears 34-6
I'm not entirely positive the Seahawks knew this was a preseason game.

Which starter looked the best?: Literally, every single Seahawks starter looked great.

Which starter looked the worst?: Can I say Jay Cutler? The Bears defense was unsurprisingly weak but Cutler looked a bit off (12/20-157-0-1) in the loud CenturyLink Field. Overall, it's hard to take anything away from this game thanks to all of the ridiculous penalties called against Chicago even though these rules were specifically emphasized to stop Seattle's defensive backs.

Backup of the Game: OLB O'Brien Schofield (2 tackles, 1 sack, 3 QB Hits) easily burst through Chicago's O-Line and quieted any rumors that he was out of shape.

Seattle's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: OT Wade Smith, CB Terrell Thomas, OT Cory Brandon, RB Demitrius Bronson, S Mike Dobson, DE Jackson Jeffcoat, WR Kevin Smith, CB Thomas Wolfe, DT Michael Brooks, WR David Gilreath, LB Horace Miller

Chicago's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: S Adrian Wilson, RB Michael Ford, WR Greg Herd, WR Kofi Hughes, OT Joe Long, CB Derricus Purdy, CB Peyton Thompson, DT Nate Collins, OL Dylan Gandy, QB Jordan Palmer (Immediately signed with Buffalo), KR/PR Darius Reynaud, CB Isaiah Frey, OG James Brown, LB Jordan Senn

Biggest Overreaction: The Seahawks will go 16-0. They could literally lose Marshawn Lynch for the season and it might not even make a difference.

Buccaneers over Bills 27-14
E.J. Manuel continues to struggle and Mike Evans scores a TD in this Saturday afternoon game.

Which starter looked the best?: Vincent Jackson (5-43-0 on 5 targets) is still a top-tier receiver in the NFL. This is great news for Tampa Bay as they hope to have two very soon as they develop #7 pick overall, Mike Evans.

Which starter looked the worst?: I'm going to skip this one and instead, recognize the worst overall performance in this game, which was by a backup Running Back. Bobby Rainey (14 touches, 13 yards) is now on the Tampa Bay 53-man roster bubble. He didn't do anything positive on Saturday afternoon.

Backup of the Game: Bucs' D-Back Anthony Gaitor (6 tackles and a sack) came out of nowhere and had a great game against Jeff Tuel and the now-free-agent Thaddeus Lewis. He locked up his roster spot in this game.

Tampa Bay's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: LS Jeremy Cain, DT Euclid Cummings, OL Jace Daniels, WR Skye Dawson, OL Jason Foster, DE Ryne Giddins, G R.J. Mattes, WR Eric Page, WR Tommy Streeter, DE Chaz Sutton, QB Alex Tanney, FB Ian Thompson, LB Damaso Munoz

Buffalo's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: QB Dennis Dixon, DT Alan Branch, S Derek Brim, P Jake Dombrowski, WR Tori Gurley, S Jajuan Harley, K Dustin Hopkins (Dan Carpenter is the Bills Kicker you want), DT Damien Jacobs, C Macky MacPherson, WR Chris Summers, G J.J. ‘Unga, RB Ronnie Wingo

Biggest Overreaction: E.J. Manuel is done! He's a bust! Kaboom! Did you hear that?! That was the sound of a bust!

Dolphins defeat Cowboys 25-20
Who is Orleans Darkwa? Better find out before he beats Daniel Thomas to the 53-man roster.

Which starter looked the best?: Cameron Wake (4 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection) was his usual Cameron Wake self which would be great except Miami's had plenty of mediocre seasons were Wake was really great and I'd prefer to see someone else jump off the screen before declaring Miami a playoff team (Your move, Tannehill).

Which starter looked the worst?: Cowboys' Cornerback Brandon Carr (1 tackle) got beaten multiple times and somehow looked worse than he did last season, when Dallas had the worst defense in NFL history. Not a great sign for those first four Orlando Scandrick-less games.

Backup of the Game: RB Ryan Williams (14 touches, 69 yards) is finally healthy after three injury-filled seasons in Arizona. I'm happy to see him look as good as he has this preseason but, with Joseph Randle in his second season, it's not a guarantee Williams makes the team or at least, gets much playing time.

Miami's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: DB Jalil Brown, TE Michael Egnew, DT Micajah Reynolds, OL Steven Baker, S Demetrius Wright, K John Potter, TE Brett Brackett, CB Steven Clarke, DE Rakim Cox, DT Cory Grissom, C Tyler Larsen and WR Ryan Spadola, WR Armon Binns

Dallas's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: DE Martez Wilson, FB J.C. Copeland, WR Chris Boyd, P Tom Hornsey, LS Casey Kreiter, DE Adewale Ojomo, G Wayne Tribue, QB Caleb Hanie, TE Jordan Najvar, S Matt Johnson, CB Justin Green, LB DeVonte Holloman, CB Johnny Thomas

Biggest Overreaction: They better not pay Dez Bryant, he could lose all motivation! (Don't read too much into contract-years or guys who just got paid unless you're talking about NBA player Trevor Ariza).

Titans defeat Falcons 24-17
A pass-happy game also featured the first signs of life from Tennessee's rookie RB Bishop Sankey.

Which starter looked the best?: Matt Ryan's the obvious answer (18/23-224-2-0) but, Jake Locker of the Titans (12/17-188-1-0) has done enough to prove that he has what it takes to be a good NFL Quarterback with the annual caveat of "AS LONG AS HE STAYS HEALTHY". Locker is miles ahead of Sam Bradford in my mind which, is someone he's been compared to as being on the same talent-level when that couldn't be more wrong. His 63-yard touchdown pass to Nate Washington was the most shining example of his arm strength and accuracy in this one.

Which starter looked the worst?: Titans' Corner Coty Sensabaugh (2 tackles, 1 solo) wasn't the only Tennessee player who couldn't tackle in this one but, he was the one guy who gave up a plethora of completions from Matt Ryan to his receivers.

Backup of the Game: If Steven Jackson is no longer the Steven Jackson we saw in St.Louis two years ago, Atlanta appears to have a terrific backup plan in both Jacquizz Rodgers (13 touches, 64 yards) and Florida State rookie Devonta Freeman (8 touches, 44 yards). I'm not sure which one would be used more (My guess is Freeman on 1st and 2nd downs, Rodgers on 3rd downs) but, they have two back-ups who have similar assets to Steven Jackson (ability to catch & run).

Tennessee's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: LB Kendrick Adams, CB Marc Anthony, DL Lanier Coleman, OL Kevin Danser, OL Tyler Horn, WR Julian Horton, RB Waymon James, CB Micah Pellerin, WR Jaz Reynolds, S Hakeem Smith, WR Derel Walker, LB Jonathan Willard, LB David Hinds, WR Isaiah Williams and OL Gabe Ikard

Atlanta's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: DE Theo Agnew, LB Darin Drakeford, S Tay Glover-Wright, WR Julian Jones, QB Jeff Mathews (I haven't watched Hard Knocks but I hear that this kid did not automatically register playbooks thanks to his college team's strategies), LB Walker May, RB Jerome Smith, WR Tramaine Thompson, TE Brian Wozniak, S Tyrell Johnson

Biggest Overreaction: Both Bishop Sankey (16-44-1) and Shonn Greene (6-15-0) are not starting Running Backs.

Ravens over Washington 23-17
Joe Theismann thinks Kirk Cousins is better than RG3 right now, this game (even though I wholeheartedly disagree) helped his case.

Which starter looked the best?: Joe Flacco (16/23-180-1-0) looked much more like postseason Joe Flacco than regular season Joe Flacco. If he can at least look above-average like this for eleven of the sixteen games this season, Baltimore should be a playoff team.

Which starter looked the worst?: Robert Griffin III (5/8-20-0-1, 3-3-0) has been overevaluated the most out of any non-rookies this preseason. I hope this preseason is a fluke as the NFL is a lot more fun when Griffin is playing like he did his rookie season. Unfortunately after 3 Washington games, the "he can't slide and he's not terribly accurate" narrative is still going strong.

Backup of the Game: Former Mich. State-alum Kirk Cousins (14/20-122-2-0) looks like he could start for Oakland, the Jets, Houston, St. Louis, and maybe even Tampa Bay. I think we're watching the final pre-season audition for Cousins before he starts somewhere next season (possibly even Washington in some disaster scenario).

Baltimore's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: S Omar Brown, LB Nick DiMarco, P Richie Leone, OT David Mims, CB Marrio Norman, CB Deji Olatoye, LB Austin Spitler, WR LaQuan Williams, WR Mike Willie, RB Cierre Wood, FB Shaun Chapas, OT Brett Van Sloten

Washington's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: FB Stephen Campbell, WR Cody Hoffman, LB Jeremy Kimbrough, WR Rashad Lawrence, S Ross Madison, DE Jake McDonough, LB Adrian Robinson, DE Jeremy Towns, OL Adam Gettis, CB Bryan Shepherd, LB Rob Jackson,WR Rashad Ross, TE Matt Veldman, OL Mike McGlynn

Biggest Overreaction: Joe Theismann

Vikings defeat Chiefs 30-12
The legend of Teddy Football continues in an easy Viking win.

Which starter looked the best?: Cordarrelle Patterson (3-71-1) is going to have a HUGE breakout season. If Mark Jackson were a Vikings announcer, we'd hear many "Mama... there goes that man!" calls.

Which starter looked the worst?: The Greg Jennings (3 targets, 0 catches) and Matt Cassel (9/17-152-1-1) connection will probably be figured out by defenses fairly easily. Cordarrelle Patterson might be the one guy keeping Cassel from being benched the first half of the season.

Backup of the Game: Teddy Bridgewater (4/7-40-2-0) is going to be good. The 2014 NFL Draft was one of the deepest drafts in recent memory and Bridgewater (Louisville) fell to the Vikes at pick #32. He would've been worth the #1 overall pick in last year's draft.

Minnesota's Cuts to a 75-man Roster:  S Brandan Bishop, OT Pierce Burton, CB Derek Cox, WR Andy Cruse, WR Kamar Jorden, WR Erik Lora, OT Kevin Murphy, DT Kheeston Randall, DE Tyler Scott, DE Jake Snyder, TE Kory Sperry, CB Robert Steeples, WR Ty Walker, TE Mike Higgins

Kansas City's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Deon Anthony, DL Jairus Campbell, DT Jermelle Cudjo, WR Weston Dressler, G Otis Hudson, WR Jerrell Jackson, CB Brandon Jones, CB Vernon Kearney, S Jerron McMillian, TE Adam Schiltz, WR Darryl Surgent, T Ryan McKee, CB Kevin Rutland, CB Damond Smith

Biggest Overreaction: Kansas City couldn't beat the Vikings AND Alex Smith threw 2 picks? Sign them up for a top-10 pick.

Saints defeat Colts 23-17
Pierre Thomas = Darren Sproles 2.0? Only time will tell.

Which starter looked the best?: No surprises in this one, Drew Brees (9/15-128-2-0) played like a top 3 NFL Quarterback.

Which starter looked the worst?: Trent Richardson (6-17-0) has been trying so hard to NOT be the starting Running Back in Indianapolis. What does the man have to do to get benched for a more-proven commodity like Ahmad Bradshaw (4 touches, 13 yards)? It's not the offensive line's fault.

Backup of the Game: Undrafted DT Zach Kerr from Delaware has made a name for himself for the Colts. Kerr recorded five tackles, three for a loss, and one sack. He made the cut to the 75-man roster, is the 53-man roster in his future?

New Orleans' Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Andy Tanner, OT Ty Nsekhe, S Ty Zimmerman, LB Kevin Reddick, CB Rod Sweeting, QB Logan Kilgore, OG Manese Foketi, DE George Uku, and DL Rufus Johnson

Indy's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: CB Johnny Adams, CB Qua Cox, G Andre Cureton, G Marcus Hall, CB Kameron Jackson, WR Nu'Keese Richardson, LB Jonathon Sharpe, S David Sims, WR Eric Thomas, WR Tony Washington, FB Cam White

Biggest Overreaction: There wasn't a whole lot to overreact to in this game as it was pretty predictable.

Rams defeat Browns 33-14
Michael Sam sacked Johnny Manziel twice. You knew that already.

Which starter looked the best?: Kenny Britt has loads of problems both on-the-field and off-the-field but we have yet to see any of that cross over to his second stop in his NFL career. Britt finished with two targets, two receptions, and 68 yards. He made incredible leaping grabs on both of his receptions (32 yards & 36 yards).

Which starter looked the worst?: After Josh Gordon's ridiculous season-long suspension was finally confirmed today, it was pretty important that Andrew Hawkins (5-36-1) had a big game here but I'm sure Mike Pettine & staff would've loved to have seen more out of veteran Miles Austin (2 receptions on 6 targets).

Backup of the Game: You can read about Rams Defensive End Michael Sam in a million different places and he genuinely seemed like a guy who could make the 53-man roster with his two sacks in this game and three throughout the preseason.

St. Louis's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: CB Jarrid Bryant, P Bobby Cowan, T R.J. Dill, WR Jordan Harris, LS Jorgen Hus, FB Kadeem Jones, LB Johnny Millard,; WR T.J. Moe, T D.J. Morrell, LB Pat Schiller.

Cleveland's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Anthony Armstrong, DB Royce Adams, RB Edwin Baker, OL Randall Harris, DB T.J. Heath, DL Cam Henderson, WR Jonathan Krause, OL Ryan Lee, LB Caleb McSurdy, OL Keavon Milton, LB Keith Pough, WR Tim Smith, OL Jeremiah Warren, TE Martell Webb

Biggest Overreaction: This Rams' D-Line is one of the greatest in NFL history. Look at that depth!

Texans defeat Broncos 18-17
The 2-point conversion craze continues as Houston wins thanks to one.

Which starter looked the best?: There were a lot of good Wide Receivers that looked good this weekend but Broncos' free-agent acquisition Emmanuel Sanders (5-128-2) has apparently built a relationship with Peyton Manning that could make him an excellent fantasy pick-up in the wake of another Wes Welker concussion.

Which starter looked the worst?: He didn't look bad but Wes Welker should retire ASAP unless there's someway he can stay inactive until the postseason. This 33-year old refuses to step down, despite three concussions in the last ten months since he's 0 for 3 in Super Bowls. If he wants to wait another thirty or forty years before losing his memory, he should step down now.

Backup of the Game: Tight End Ryan Griffin (5-71-1) of Houston looked like the perfect replacement for offseason loss Owen Daniels (Ravens). It's too bad he's probably not beating out the better blocker, Garrett Graham for the starting job.

Houston's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: WR Joe Adams, NT Austin Brown, NT David Hunter, WR Alec Lemon, LB Terrance Lloyd, OL Sam Longo, CB Junior Mertile, RB William Powell, LB Lawrence Sidbury, OLB Paul Hazel, OG Conor Boffeli, WR Anthony McClung

Denver's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: LB Jamar Chaney, RB Brennan Clay, WR Greg Hardin, LB Jerrell Harris, T Winston Justice, S Charles Mitchell, DT Will Pericak, QB Bryn Renner, DE Chase Vaughn, RB Jerodis Williams, WR Greg Wilson

Biggest Overreaction: The Texans' pass defense is terrible! They couldn't even defend a 39-year old with multiple neck surgeries!

49ers defeat Chargers 21-7
An earthquake brought out the best in the Niners' defense.

Which starter looked the best?: Chris Borland (A second-round Linebacker out of Wisconsin) is not the 49ers' full-time starter at ILB beside Patrick Willis but, with Navorro Bowman on the PUP-list, Borland will be starting the first six weeks of the season for San Fran. Borland (7 tackles, 6 solo, 1 sack) had been fairly quiet until this game and I expect him to bring quality, replacement-level play for Jim Harbaugh's defense.

Which starter looked the worst?: Colin Kaepernick (6/12-59-0-0, 2-13-0) hasn't been playing well this preseason but I wouldn't read much into it until the regular season begins.

Backup of the Game: RB Glenn Winston (8-58-1) had a great 27-yard touchdown run in this one and continues to outperform expectations. It's a shame there really isn't a place for him on San Francisco's roster with Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde, LaMichael James, and eventually Marcus Lattimore being the talents that they are. Winston did sneak past initial cuts and will get one more audition tape after game four that teams around the NFL will be looking at in case they're interested in this young, work-in-progress.

San Francisco's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson, S D.J. Campbell, TE Kevin Greene, RB Jewel Hampton, P Colton Schmidt, LB Kion Wilson and WR Devon Wylie, WR David Reed, LB Blake Costanzo

San Diego's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: OT Nick Becton, RB Zach Boren, TE Jake Byrne, WR Brelan Chancellor, LB Adrian Hamilton, WR Micah Hatfield, TE Ryan Otten, DB Lowell Rose, P Chase Tenpenny, RB Kerwynn Williams

Miley Cyrus defeats Pharrell for Video of the Year at the VMA's
Oh wait, there was a game Sunday night? Woops...

Bengals defeat Cardinals 19-13
John Brown's diving catch makes Cardinals' fans irrationally confident in Drew Stanton.

Which starter looked the best?: Bengals Receivers A.J. Green (5-53-0) and Mohamed Sanu (5-71-0) both helped Andy Dalton look great, even without the help of injured WR Marvin Jones (foot).

Which starter looked the worst?: Are Arizona fans concerned with the fact that Carson Palmer (7/19-92-0-1) is still their only option at starting Quarterback? I'd really like to know. Do Cardinals fans want Drew Stanton (10/13-108-1-0) to start? it's certainly possible but the man's been around for a while now and has been cut by teams like Detroit and Houston. Logan Thomas (2/7-21-0-1) would be an interesting experiment but I feel like the only way Palmer loses his job is via injury (very possible in his case).

Backup of the Game: Nicki Minaj. Oh wait, this is still a football thing... I'll go with Running Back Cedric Peerman (6-54-0).

Cincinnati's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: CB R.J. Stanford, DT Larry Black, S Isaiah Lewis, K Quinn Sharp, WR Ryan Whalen, TE Kevin Brock, WR Jasper Collins, LB James Davidson, QB Matt Scott, CB Lavelle Westbrooks, LB JK Schaffer

Arizona's Cuts to a 75-man Roster: K Jay Feely (Chandler Catanzaro won the kicking job), QB Ryan Lindley, OT Max Starks, LB Keenan Clayton, LB JoJo Dickson, C Tommie Draheim, WR Reggie Dunn, LB Derrell Johnson, S Orhian Johnson, WR Kevin Ozier, DT Justin Renfrow, CB Brandon Sermons, RB Damien Thigpen

Biggest Overreaction: The VMA's actually mean something and Carson Palmer can't do anything right.

Preseason Overreactions! Week 2

Where are the popular sports at currently in terms of status amongst fans?

NFL: Strong but off-the-field issues are taking over attention from what actually takes place on the field. Controversies are not a good sign (Concussion Lawsuits, Suspension Lengths, Anything Manziel-Favre-Tebow-T.O. Related) as it shows waning interest in on-field activities, resulting in lower attendance numbers.

NBA: The stars' brands are what's most important and that's working just fine. Attendance is solid unless you suck or have nothing marketable going on (Milwaukee, Orlando, Atlanta). The new commissioner may be making some controversial decisions (ads on jerseys) but at the end of the day, the sport is still progressing in the right direction.

MLB: TV ratings are doing fantastic locally but the majority seem to only care about their home teams as national viewership is way down. This could all also be the result of the lackluster Red Sox-Yankees teams as well but somebody needs to tell those guys to play games quicker than four hours. A new commissioner from the school of Bud Selig, Rob Manfred takes over next year and likely continues on Bud's depressing legacy. With all of this on the table, people have been declaring baseball dead since the fifties so it's very hard to buy into any "DEATH OF THE MLB" theories.

NHL: Hockey is finally back from their post-2004 apocalypse of not being cared about by a lot of people. I'd seen way more hockey fans than ever before this past season on social media and can't wait to see if a major network actually picks up the sport again soon. They might not receive recognition from ESPN but, if some other network wants to buy in, the NHL could be at it's most popular since Wayne Gretzky retired.

Golf: Rory isn't Tiger yet but he damn well had most people fooled. McIlroy is on a hot streak and I'd be shocked to see him fall off the face of the earth the way he did in 2012 & 2013. With drama like they had at the PGA tour championship with four golfers in the running on the final hole, The PGA doesn't need Tiger anymore and that's exactly the boost golf needed.

Soccer: Soccer's exploding and even though I refuse to acknowledge it at any point in the near future, the Premier League is back on NBCSportsNetwork so this will be a good test to see if any of the major network talk-shows ever get back onto the soccer bandwagon for something other than the World Cup. (Note: It's Monday and I saw nothing, I repeat: NOTHING about this weekend's Premier League games).

College Sports: Football is king and only getting bigger with the new, sort-of awesome playoff system in place. Basketball was on a downhill spiral with no stars returning but thankfully, Kentucky kept the Harrison twins, Wisconsin still has Frank Kaminsky, and Kevin Ollie looks like a really good coach to carry on UCONN's legacy.

And now, on to week 2 of the preseason...

-In my best Jon Gruden voice- "This guy..."

Here we go...

Bears over Jaguars 20-19
BlakeBortlesBlakeBortlesBlakeBortlesBlakeBortlesBlakeBortles

Rookie of the Game: Blake Bortles. Bortles (11/17-160-0-0, 2-6-0) dominated Monday Night Football talk almost as much as that guy in Cleveland. He looked incredibly poised (again), confident (again), and like a legit starting QB in the NFL. You go, Jaguars. You needed some hope.

Position Battle Updates: Jags veteran QB Chad Henne (12/17-130-1-0) still looks good enough to hold off the Bortlehood for a few weeks of regular season action. Will the real Jaguar Receiving corps please stand up? Marqise Lee (4-27-1) looked solid but like more of a Wes Welker-type slot receiver than the Steve Smith-like deep-threat we saw at USC. It was interesting to say the least. Allen Robinson and Cecil Shorts are still nowhere to be seen and Miami (FL) Receiver Allen Hurns (4-74-0) should not start a single game this year.

Who Should Stay?: Former-Michigan Quarterback Denard Robinson, who is now listed as an Offensive Weapon, was not a guarantee to make the team this year after a bad rookie season. Luckily for Jacksonville, this experiment has thrived in the preseason as he has consistently picked up good yardage on a handful of carries (34 on 6 this week). I expect him to have a locked in the spot over Central Florida Running Back Storm Johnson.

Who Should Go?: It seems like a cop out to just continually pick on rookies and continuously call out skill players but Storm Johnson (8 touches, 34 yards) has not been the Running Back this team was hoping they'd drafted late in the draft.

Biggest Overreaction: Blake Bortles looks like Ben Roethlisberger, lock in Jacksonville for a 2016 Super Bowl run!

Patriots defeat Eagles 42-35
A wild one featuring Mark Sanchez, Ryan Mallett, and 11 touchdowns.

Rookie of the Game: Eagles Wide Receiver Jordan Matthews was excellent, nine catches, 104 yards, 9 targets. He was a perfect 9/9 on targets and showed why Philly took him in the second round. I would not be shocked to see him make the leap over Riley Cooper on the depth chart.

Position Battle Updates: Reports say that the Eagles are open to trading free agent acquisition Mark Sanchez (11/12-117-2-1). It was a strange signing in the first place with young Matt Barkley (9/12-132-1-1) sitting behind Foles on the bench. Now, it looks even stranger with Mark Sanchez on the trading block. Patriots Safety Duron Harmon (2 tackles, 1 INT) will end up starting over veteran Patrick Chung and it's not even close anymore.

Who should stay?: RB Henry Josey (9 touches, 83 yards, 1 TD) has shocked everyone by continuing his great story of returning from a serious leg injury at the beginning of his college career. He's earned a spot on somebody's roster. Hopefully, he sneaks in as the #4 RB on Philadelphia's depth chart.

Who should go?: With the trade additions of Jerel Worthy from Green Bay and Brian Bass from Dallas, the Pats have a few too many Defensive Tackles. Assuming both of these players at minimum make the practice squad, veteran Tommy Kelly's roster spot is in jeopardy.

Biggest Overreaction: Sure, he was terrible last week but Ryan Mallett has learned his lesson. If I were the Pats, I'd try trading him for a 4th rounder because NFL teams will TOTALLY do that.

Saints defeat Titans 31-24
Zach Mettenberger punches back, tears apart Rob Ryan's backups.

Rookie of the Game: Easily, this award goes to QB Zach Mettenberger out of LSU, currently in Tennessee. Mettenberger was accurate (20/25), gained a lot of yards (269), and helped advance WR Justin Hunter's game (4-111-2) with a 64-yard touchdown pass. Mettenberger is obviously recovered from the Torn ACL he suffered last December.

Position Battle Updates: Shonn Greene (9-46-0) and Bishop Sankey (6-31-0) are going to be in a timeshare at Running Back and that hasn't changed since the minute Sankey was drafted since nobody's stepping forward and claiming the job as their own. Both RB's also lost fumbles. Titans Kicker Travis Coons made a 50-yard field goal this Friday and has a slight advantage over Maikon Bonani in the battle of unproven legs for the Titans kicking job.

Who should stay?: Undrafted Boston College Linebacker Kasim Edebali recorded his first sack of the preseason and could knock off former-Cowboy Linebacker Victor Butler for a backup linebacking job.

Who should go?: Saints Fullback Austin Johnson's fate was sealed with the signing of Greg Jones this month and with Jones and Erik Lorig resting, Johnson blew his one chance of making the team by paving the way for none of his running backs and letting the team average 2.9 yards per carry.

Biggest Overreaction: The Saints defensive backfield is in some serious danger after making Justin Hunter look like Randy Moss.

Seahawks defeat Chargers 41-14
Seattle destroys San Diego with 4 rushing touchdowns by QB's and a reminder from Robert Turbin that he's still there.

Rookie of the Game: Seattle Inside Linebacker Brock Coyle continues to impress Seattle by outplaying Heath Farwell in every way so far, recording another 8 tackles (only 2 solo). This is his second big game in a row and he is one guy who should stay. (2 birds, 1 stone).

Position Battle Updates: Robert Turbin (13 touches, 86 yards, 1 TD) is not letting Christine Michael move up to RB2 on the depth chart easily. Michael fumbled once, recovered that fumble, and looked solid otherwise (9 touches, 53 yards). The battle of two old men at Defensive Tackle between Tony McDaniel and Kevin Williams will be something to keep an eye on next weekend when starters get more playing time. The battle for the Chargers' final RB spot was being won by Branden Oliver but, after just 14 yards on 9 carries, Arizona State 6th rounder Marion Grice has taken the lead on who avoids being thrown to the practice squad.

Who should go?: It may seem too obvious to choose Punter Chase Tenpenny from San Diego, especially when Mike Scifres has been the team's Punter for more than a decade but, I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway. Tenpenny is a goner.

Biggest Overreaction: The Chargers only got to Seattle's trio of fast Quarterbacks (Pryor,Wilson,Daniels) once? Seattle's offensive line is cured!

Raiders defeat Lions 27-26
The Oakland QB situation gets much messier with a Matt McGloin last-second game-winning touchdown.

Rookie of the Game: #5 overall pick Khalil Mack recorded his first NFL preseason sack. Oakland hopes this kid is the Defensive Rookie of the Year and that's not too far of a stretch for the highly-touted Linebacker out of Buffalo.

Position Battle Updates: Dan Orlovsky looked much better than last week against Cleveland and will almost certainly open the season as Matthew Stafford's backup just based on experience. Lions Defensive Tackle Nick Fairley oddly lost his starting job for motivational reasons and nobody can quite tell what's happened to Nick Fairley but it appears he won't be in Detroit much longer (at least, not into 2015). Kyle Van Noy out of Brigham Young is outperforming Ashlee Palmer at Outside Linebacker and that will be another battle decided over the next two weeks. On Oakland's side, the QB situation is a mess as all three guys are playing nearly identical games.

Matt Schaub: 8/13-87-0-1
Derek Carr: 9/16-109-1-0
Matthew McGloin: 7/15-114-1-0

Looking at those stats, I have no idea who I would start based on numbers alone. Schaub is almost guaranteed to start week one but, based on his performance so far, it's only a matter of time before head coach Dennis Allen decides to look elsewhere.

Who should stay?: Lions Cornerback Jonte Green recorded 2 tackles & pass deflections. He has been a reliable special teams player over the past couple of seasons and if there were any rookies planning on taking his roster spot, we have yet to see them. Jonte's stepped up and the former-New Mexico State D-Back will continue being a valuable special teams player if kept into the season.

Who should go?: Raiders wideout Greg Little was terrible in Cleveland and unsurprisingly, is still bad in Oakland. The former-Brown caught 2 passes out of 7 targets (as is to be expected) and did barely anything to assist the Raiders in figuring out the Quarterback situation.

Biggest Overreaction: Maurice Jones-Drew has 12 yards on 6 carries. It's official, Maurice is washed up.

Packers defeat Rams 21-7
Green Bay and St.Louis run the exact same offenses with one huge difference, Aaron Rodgers.

Rookie of the Game: Outside Linebacker Jayrone Elliot blew through the awful 3rd-string O-Line of the Rams and got 3 sacks in 4 plays. It was incredible to watch as Jayrone made his case for the 53-man roster and therefore, is also one who should stay.

Position Battle Updates: It's hard to believe that Tackle Derek Sherrod was once a first-rounder by Green Bay as he continues to show why that pick was a mistake, getting beaten at the line repeatedly. David Bakhtiari is going to win that job via forfeit. 2014 first-rounder and Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix sacked his first Quarterback and got two tackles as he continues to outshine Micah Hyde. Benny Cunningham acquired the Rams RB3 job in an unfortunate manner as his competition, former 2nd-rounder Isaiah Pead, tore his ACL during a kick return in this game. (Link to an article, NOT a video of the injury). On defense for the Rams, 2nd-round Safety LaMarcus Joyner finished the game with a team-leading six tackles and has really exploded his way into a position battle with Rodney McLeod (2 tackles). Michael Sam and Ethan Westbrooks both looked good in their second round of battling for the backup Defensive End spot on the active roster. Westbrooks has the slight advantage with four tackles and a sack this week, compared to Sam's two tackles and one sack.

Who should go?: Undrafted 2013 Cornerback Darren Woodard is losing his spot to Florida rookie Marcus Roberson as he has yet to record any stats in two games. It's looking shaky for him to defeat the undrafted odds and make the roster for year 2.

Biggest Overreaction: Packers 7th-round receiver Jeff Janis is the real deal! Did you see that easy slant across the middle that he sped through a mediocre group of Rams back-up defenders for a 34-yard touchdown? SEND THIS MAN TO THE PRO BOWL!

Ravens defeat Cowboys 37-30
The worst defense in NFL history doesn't LOOK improved.

Rookie of the Game: Ravens MLB C.J. Mosley (5 tackles) continues to show Ozzie Newsome and co. that he was the right choice at pick #17. The former Alabama Linebacker will be starting week 1.

Position Battle Updates: Jacoby Jones (3-49-0) did just enough to continue the two-year battle between him and other Wide Receiver Marlon Brown for the Ravens' WR3 position. The Cowboys defense was structured really poorly and that is clearly seen at the Linebacker position. Devonte Holloman vs. Kyle Wilber is a serious battle for a starting role on their defense. Neither has done anything yet in the preseason which may be a sign of things to come.

Who should stay?: Former-Bears Defensive Tackle Zach Minter blew through the Ravens O-Line for two sacks and is exhibiting plenty of potential as the Cowboys may need him on defense at some point with their injury histories.

Who should go?: Dallas GM/Owner Jerry Jones. Pretty self-explanatory as he's been THE problem for a decade now.

Biggest Overreaction: C.J. Mosley is practically Ray Lewis. The Ravens defense will be back to their super bowl ways.

Giants defeat Colts 27-26
A comeback for the ages that nobody will ever talk about again because it's the preseason.

Rookie of the Game & Who should stay & Biggest Overreaction: Giants Receiver Corey Washington is breaking out the same way Victor Cruz did in multiple preseasons before finally making the 53-man roster. Washington has now caught the game-winning touchdown IN THREE CONSECUTIVE GAMES. Dude's clearly made the Giants regret the selection of hamstrung (literally) Odell Beckham Jr. and locked in a spot in the starting line-up if Coughlin sees fit.

Position Battle Updates: Adrien Robinson won game 2 over Larry Donnell, splitting the battle amongst Giants' Tight Ends. Kellen Davis also caught a touchdown so the long-shot that he starts is still in play. Colts' Cornerback Darius Butler did not show up while current listed-starter Greg Toler deflected a pass sooo... I guess Toler wins?

Who should go?: Undrafted Illinois rookie Receiver Ryan Lankford was targeted three times. Lankford did not catch a pass. I don't know about you but, unless Lankford's Quarterback was Ryan Leaf, I would expect him to at least grab one of those passes. Granted, I did not see much of this game but, Lankford's chances are looking slimmer and slimmer of even sneaking onto the practice squad.

Jets defeat Bengals 25-17
Andy Dalton showed why he was worth his contract's money while his backups fell apart in a deflating loss to the Jets.

Rookie of the Game: Jets first-round Safety Calvin Pryor was the player of the game just as much as he was the rookie of the game. Pryor's first worthwhile preseason game saw him record seven tackles, 1 for loss, and 2 pass deflections. These are a few things that Rex Ryan wants and needs to see from Pryor as the rest of the Defensive Backfield hasn't shown anything remotely positive. Pryor could help save Rex Ryan's job at the end of the season.

Position Battle Updates: Geno Smith is starting, that's no longer a battle. The Jets have yet to get a ton of work out of free-agent acquisition Dmitri Patterson at corner and will have to see more from him before making a decision on Patterson v. 2010 first-rounder Kyle Wilson. BenJarvus Green-Ellis (1-3-0) might be a shocking cut at the end of the month (you heard it here first) as LSU rookie Jeremy Hill has won the #2 Running Back job smoothly with another solid game (5 touches, 29 yards) under his name.

Who should stay?: Jets LB IK Enemkpali (I have no idea how to pronounce this) blocked a punt in this game for a safety along with a sack. It's safe to say he has shown quite a burst toward whomever holds the ball.

Who should go?: Bengals Receiver Cobi Hamilton finished with 13 targets. Only TWO of those passes did he manage to catch. Those numbers are tragic. Not all of this game was his fault but, oh my... Ryan Whalen (4-31-0) is looking pretty good right now.

Biggest Overreaction: Andy Dalton (8/8-144-1-0) looked incredibly composed out there, he's going to prove all the haters wrong this year, go out there and earn that paycheck Andrew!

Steelers defeat Bills 19-16
Suisham's field goal puts the Bills at 1-2 on the preseason.

Rookie of the Game: Steelers #1 pick OLB Ryan Shazier had 11 tackles and an interception. After limited playing time in game one, the Steelers unleashed Ryan Shazier and should be elated at the results. The Steelers never had to worry about their reserve defenders as long as Ohio State's Shazier was on the field.

Position Battle Updates: Jeff Tuel (5/9-48-0-0) will steal the Bills' backup QB job from Thaddeus Lewis (1/6-18-0-1). C.J. Spiller hasn't been in jeopardy of losing his job for a couple of years now but, Fred Jackson is 33 and somehow needs to hold off the emerging talent that is Bryce Brown. This week, Fred Jackson caught seven passes. Game over, Jackson is still #2 over Brown.

Who should stay?: Undrafted Stanford DE Josh Mauro sacked the Bills QB twice and in the process, picked up a spot on somebody's 53-man roster. If not the Steelers, somebody else will want to pick Mauro up as he was a free agency steal.

Who should go?: Bills Fullback Evan Rodriguez got one opportunity with the ball. He caught the ball, took it 18 good yards, put the ball in the ground, and turned the ball over. Woops.

Biggest Overreaction: Steeler Dri Archer is Darren Sproles if Darren Sproles took a bucket of caffeine pills before the game. Archer is a major sleeper in fantasy.

Dolphins defeat Buccaneers 20-14
Tampa Bay's ugliest jerseys in the league didn't blind Miami long enough to keep them from winning.

Rookie of the Game: 7th-round Marist Defensive End Terrence Fede has shoved his way through backup O-Lines to the point where he looks like Cameron Wake 2.0. With that said, those are still backup O-Lines. Miami's already stacked on pass rushers but I don't see any harm in keeping Terrence Fede. He is also the one who should stay. Honorable mention for who should stay: Dolphins WR Armon Binns (2-28-0). He looked like a great #3 receiving option back in Cincy before he got hurt and missed all of last season as a Dolphin. Now, he's back and on the cusp of possibly being released. I wouldn't do it if I were Miami but, it's understandable considering their receiver depth (Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Rishard Matthews, Brandon Gibson, Damian Williams, Jarvis Landry, Kevin Cone, Binns, Ryan Spadola).

Position Battle Updates: With Charles Sims out for 12-14 weeks, the Bucs RB2 spot is wide open. Here's how the competitors fared this week...

Mike James: 3 carries, 18 yards
Bobby Rainey: 8 carries, 15 yards, 1 catch for 2 yards
Jeff Demps: 8 carries, 31 yards, 0 catches on 2 targets

Before the game, Tampa's depth behind Doug Martin was James, Rainey, Demps (in that order). Now, the order is a bit more open as James looked good in extremely limited playing time. Rainey looked like he won't be on the team to start the season and Demps showed his speed and an improvement in awareness with his average 3.9 yards per carry. I'd say the depth chart looks more like this now -> Martin, James, Demps, Rainey.

Who should go?: Buccaneers Kicker Patrick Murray. Always go with the experienced Kicker (Connor Barth in this case). Barth's healthy again so Tampa no longer has a need for Murray.

Biggest Overreaction: Mike Wallace didn't catch a single pass on three targets, Miami should trade him. Dude's been nothing but a major flop of a signing.

Texans defeat Falcons 32-7
Jadeveon Clowney broke Sam Baker and now he's out for the year... and so the legend continues.

Rookie of the Game: -Jaws theme music- Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney (2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 other tackle for a loss) Clowney looked amazing. The #1 overall pick will have a field day against offensive linemen who aren't all-pros.

Position Battle Updates: With Sam Baker out for the season, Lamar Holmes is starting again. If you are at all familiar with the 2013 Falcons, Lamar Holmes was their starting Tackle and the team went 4-12 thanks to Matt Ryan having to throw the ball as soon as it was snapped to him. Holmes won't lose his job unless he doesn't show any improvement halfway through the season. Sam Baker's injury will be the biggest reason for why Atlanta misses the playoffs this year. In Houston, Jonathan Grimes is pretty clearly the #2 back behind Arian Foster. That's not an ideal situation for Houston but who else is out there? The Texans likely pick up a Running Back after roster cut-downs. Also in Houston, Case Keenum (6/12-81-0-1) started taking first-team snaps in practice this week but, Ryan Fitzpatrick was the good version of Ryan Fitzpatrick this week (9/12-97-1-0). Expect Fitz to start week 1.

Who should stay?: Jonathan Grimes (12 touches, 67 yards, 1 Punt Return TD).

Who should go?: Ronnie Brown's (7 touches, 9 yards) going to have a tough time making this young team with LSU rookie Alfred Blue and former-Jet practice squadder Jonathan Grimes out-performing him.

Biggest Overreaction: Houston doesn't have a Kicker! Both Chris Boswell and Randy Bullock missed extra-points thanks to the NFL's new extra-point length. Sign David Akers!

Vikings defeat Cardinals 30-28
Teddy Football looks like a starter in an awesome comeback win over Arizona.

Rookie of the Game: How could it be anyone other than Viking QB Teddy Bridgewater (16/20-177-2-0)? The guy only led his team on an epic one-minute drill, threw the game-winning touchdown, and put up some excellent stats as well.

Position Battle Updates: Jerrick McKinnon (-2 yards on 2 touches) lost round 2 to Matt Asiata (12 touches, 27 yards) but it's by no means a closed case yet. Brandon Fusco is still the starting Right Guard over Vladimir Ducasse for Minnesota as well. In the four-way battle for the starting Strong Safety position, Robert Blanton leads Chris Crocker, Kurt Coleman, and Mistral Raymond even though the other three all have many more years of experience than Blanton.

Who should stay?: Juron Brown (2-86-0) is a surprising deep threat for Arizona that could make one big catch per game if they used him in that Mike Lombardi-an manner.

Who should go?: Stepfan Taylor has not showed any promise at Running Back since college. In Arizona, Taylor has yet to show anything other than a lack of field vision and ability to burst through holes. It's depressing considering his great career at Stanford. Now, Jonathan Dwyer looks like the best option to share any carries with the much more talented Andre Ellington.

Biggest Overreaction: Why isn't Teddy starting!? He should be! The guy's only won an entire preseason game for the Vikings.

Broncos defeat 49ers 34-0
The Broncos are still the Broncos and the 49ers still take too much flak.

Rookie of the Game: Jimmie Ward (7 tackles, 6 solo) is trying to become another in a long string of successful Jim Harbaugh pick-ups. Eric Reid made sense when he was chosen late in the first last season and was nearly defensive rookie of the year. In the 2014 draft, the Niners may have reached for another Safety in the selection of Jimmie Ward but, after two impressive showings, it's impossible to argue that Ward won't be worth it yet.

Position Battle Updates: C.J. Anderson scored a touchdown and therefor, knocked Ronnie Hillman down a peg as the battle for #2 is probably settled on Anderson as long as he's healthy. 49ers DT Quinton Dial (3 tackles, 2 solo) continues to play like someone who was actually drafted in 2013, unlike his challenger, Mike Purcell (1 tackle)

Who should stay?: Strong Safety David Bruton's days might be numbered (nearly typed that as numbers might be dayed, I need sleep) so, Charles Mitchell might sneak onto the roster with his team-leading five tackles in this game. Then again, I'm not an expert on how teams view their fourth-string Safeties.

Who should go?: The Niners are stacked at Wide Receiver (for once) and with word coming out that Brandon Lloyd's chances of staying are higher than expected, it's the end of the road for former-fantasy sleeper Quinton Patton (remember when you put this guy in your "late-round sleeper" category last year? of course you don't, he didn't do anything). Stevie Johnson, Lloyd, Crabtree, and Boldin are the receivers, Kassim Osgood is the Special Teams player, and David Reed is diet Kassim Osgood. In no scenario does Quinton Patton make that team.

Biggest Overreaction: Jordan Norwood is out for the year, ouch. At least Denver has a replacement for Welker come next year!

Panthers defeat Chiefs 28-16
Cam Newton tests his ankle and tests Kelvin Benjamin as Jonathan Stewart scores twice in win over KC.

Rookie of the Game: Travis Kelce (4-63-1) isn't technically a rookie but he deserves mentioning as he has TORN UP the preseason defenses and looks like a serious fantasy sleeper now if he ever snags the starting Tight End job over or to the side of Anthony Fasano (2-29-0). Plus, there weren't any rookies that looked completely ready for this game.

Position Battle Updates: I've already covered Kelce vs. Fasano so, Sean Smith vs. Ron Parker is a legitimate worry for Kansas City right now as Sean Smith underperformed his contract up to this point and for some reason, that makes them think that Ron Parker will work as a starter simply because Bob Sutton (D. Coordinator) has yet to fail them. In Carolina, Kenjon Barner was traded to Philadelphia this week and that leaves a spot wide open for the vastly underrated Fozzy Whittaker.

Who should stay?: As mentioned above, Fozzy (Fozzwhitt) Whittaker should be this team's third running back behind Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. Fozzy (waka, waka) compiled 14 touches for 93 yards along with one rushing touchdown, completely out-doing anything Kenjon Barner has done in two years. Luckily for Barner, he is now reunited with former-Oregon head coach Chip Kelly in Philadelphia and will hopefully redeem his career.

Who should go?: Now that Kenjon Barner is gone, it was harder to think of someone I wouldn't keep on these two teams that isn't entirely obvious but, QB Aaron Murray should only make Kansas City's practice squad. He showed flashes of brilliance and stupidity in just nine passes. I'd still take an experienced Chase Daniel over Murray in case of emergency.

Biggest Overreaction: Cam Newton overthrew Kelvin Benjamin! Jump ship on the Benjamin bandwagon! These guys will never get on the same page!

Washington didn't go for two over the Browns 24-23
The Browns went for two and lost, despite Connor Shaw's plea for a roster spot.

Rookie of the Game: Browns QB Connor Shaw (8/9-123-1-0). This game was impossible to watch until he ignited the Browns' offense on a last-minute drive.

Position Battle Updates: That one Jonathan Foosball character lost the QB job to a 28-year old we'll never mention again after week 3. Evan Royster scored a touchdown on his only carry (a 2 yarder) while Lache Seastrunk (7-35-0) and Silas Redd (5-19-0) were both solid in the battle for the RB3 position. Plenty of time left for Jay Gruden to make up his mind on his Running Back depth chart.

Who should stay?: Connor Shaw. You never know when might need a third-string Quarterback, why not keep one with the playmaking ability of Shaw?

Who should go?: I think everybody outside of Washington's front office was over the Aldrick Robinson hype train years ago but, he still remains on their roster. Robinson (2-19-0) had a mediocre game for somebody who was targeted seven times. I don't think Robinson's done enough to hold off rookie Ryan Grant or locker room-leader Santana Moss.

Biggest Overreaction: Just try listening to sports radio for five minutes, then come back and tell me.

Good luck to your teams and may everyone stay healthy! Nobody likes torn ACL's.
