Florida State QB Jameis Winston |
#1 Florida State vs. #4 Oregon
BUT FLORIDA STATE ISN'T #1 IN THE... stop. The Seminoles are defending champs and haven't lost yet (defeating a formidable opponent in Notre Dame). The selection committee of twelve is selecting the four teams and despite a recency bias, they would be insane to NOT seed the undefeated defending champs with the defending Heisman winner #1.
Oregon will be put in simply because people want to watch next year's #1 pick, which is likely going to be QB Marcus Mariota. Sure, their defense is terrible but Oregon's offense gets the audience going and it's Mariota's last chance. Who wouldn't want to see the clash of the Duck's O versus Florida State's D?
Alabama WR Amari Cooper |
#2 Mississippi State vs. #3 Alabama
Mississippi State has Dak Prescott. He's a pretty good college football player. The Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State is the real determining factor in whether or not Dan Mullen's team is playoff-ready. I get the feeling they won't be ranked this highly at the end of the regular season with the tough schedule ahead. Watch out for the sneaky good Miss. State defense however, as they've had some nice moments this season.
Alabama is in the final four because they're Alabama and anytime Nick Saban has one loss, he should be involved in the championship somehow (Only semi-sarcastic). Alabama's O-Line has been their usual top-5 FBS blockers and Wide Receiver Amari Cooper has become a superstar first-round draft prospect. Their one weakness is another game-manager QB in Blake Sims. It would be quite the test to see him in a playoff game.
My Obligatory Who's On The Outside? Teams
5. Notre Dame
6. Texas Christian University
7. Auburn
8. Michigan State
I have Auburn two spots lower than their AP rank at the moment because they've barely escaped too many games (including this week's 42-35 squeaker against middling South Carolina). TCU just put up 82 on Texas Tech and they play the most entertaining non-Pac 12 games in the country. Notre Dame is easily the most deserving team to not be in the playoff picture yet despite an up-and-down defense. Michigan State has a phenomenal defense and slightly above average offense with a great running game and slightly overrated Quarterback and easy schedule. Michigan State isn't all they were last season but as long as they have one loss, they'll be in the committee's ballpark.

Watch the College Playoff be revealed at 6:30 PM CT Tuesday night on ESPN! or don't... I don't really care because I'm not in their payroll.
Best of luck to your college football team of choice, the San Francisco Giants for proving me right hopefully, and the NBA for a tremendous season!
