Bro...
The greatest month on the sports calendar is here! Football teams are finally waking up from their post-preseason haze, college football's rankings become a bit more accurate, hockey starts (I guess?), basketball is two weeks away and the MLB Playoffs are in full swing after a season that saw the most home runs ever. Everything is awesome and... oh god... Dalvin Cook tore his ACL :(. The Vikings season might be in jeopardy with Detroit and Green Bay excelling but, at least they have the Twins in Octo... oh... the Twins were eliminated by the Yankees. Back to football, the worst team in the league (Jets) and the best team in the league (Patriots) are tied up at 2-2 in the AFC East which just goes to show how fun and unpredictable the NFL can... seriously?... Derek Carr broke his back. In conclusion, this was one rough week for football but, at least we don't have to struggle through another London game this week and only Nick will be tasked with watching Jay Cutler. Thoughts and prayers go out to Nick during this difficult time.

The impossible has happened and 3-0 Ryan Dougherty not only scored fewer than 140 points for the first time in his Bro League life but, he even managed to lose a highly dramatic match to 0-3 Alec! Kissin' TDs had their highest-scoring week of the young 2017 season thanks to Hero of the Week Le'Veon Bell's 34 points and quite the hustling effort from both Russell Wilson (26 points) and the Seattle defense (22) on Sunday Night Football. Of course, there is always the one move that makes the loser of the match shake his head in embarrassment and benching Todd Gurley (34 points) for Dalvin Cook (11) may not have been as awful as it looks now but, there had to be a more sensible option for Ryan to bench than taking the second-highest scoring RB in the WRBL (any one of his 5 RB/WR starters on the bench for Gurley would have resulted in a win). Everybody has one of those "maybe I overthought this" moves per year at least and it was only a matter of time before Team Easy Breesy suffered his first instance of WRBL fantasy heartbreak. Besides, in my TD-only league, an owner lost by three points because he did not realize the Chiefs cut Cairo Santos so, Ryan looks like a boy genius in comparison.

Actual photo of Ryan, now feeling better about himself and ready for a new opponent.

Looking at the scoring leaderboards, everything seems predictable with your Bradys, Gronks, sexy rookie RB (Kareem Hunt) and Denver's defense at the top of their positions. The one oddball "woah, where did this come from?" position scoring leader has been WR Stefon Diggs. This former Maryland Terrapin was a first or second round talent his entire college career until he broke his leg in 2013 and lacerated his kidney in 2014. Much like Keenan Allen in present day, Diggs was unfairly labeled as an injury-prone prospect that would not last at the next level. Diggs fell to the fifth round and joined a team that already had budding superstar wideouts like Cordarrelle Patterson and Charles Johnson so, he was lucky to make the 53-man roster, let alone any of our fantasy teams. Once it was rapidly apparent that Patterson's only talent was quickness and Johnson probably died or something (seriously, what happened to that guy?), Diggs rose to the occasion and showed flashes of decency and finished the year with 34 points for Scott's awful 2015 squad. His 2015 performance was not enough for Vikings' management since they picked Laquon Treadwell in the first round and to the surprise of many, the rise of both Diggs and Adam Thielen gave Treadwell a redshirt season on the bench. Diggs showed enough flashes that I snagged him earlier in the 2016 season but, his team was so ridiculously torn apart and conservative due to injuries that I barely had the chance to play him and he "regressed" to 30 points. Now in 2017, he's fully delivering on all of the promise he's previously shown and it does not matter who is under center. Ryan has yet to make the mistake of benching this possible Randy Moss reincarnate and has benefited to the tune of 79 points.

Stefon Diggs has succeeded with both Sam Bradford AND Case Keenum at QB.
The bye weeks have arrived and the first cut is the deepest with Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, C.J. Anderson, Devonta Freeman, Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas and Jordan Reed all resting. The confusing fall of the New England Patriots might continue when they have to travel all the way to Tampa Bay on three days of rest to play a VERY interesting Thursday night game. After everyone sleeps in on Sunday, the 2004 NFL Draft debate is reignited when 0-4 Philip Rivers plays 0-4 Eli Manning. The Packers and Cowboys play a playoff rematch (and possibly another playoff preview?) at the scene of Jared Cook's crime (robbery of a Cowboy playoff win, punishable by being forced to catch passes from E.J. Manuel) and defensive coordinators everywhere will want to look away. The lone undefeated team remaining resides in Kansas City but, plays in Houston this week, one week removed from the Texans' best game in franchise history. Don't let the possibility of a Jay Cutler-Matt Cassel duel deceive you, the real quarterbacking showcase this week might take place on Monday Night Football when it's possible that the Vikings are forced to once again start Case Keenum against Mitchell Trubisky (who is being tasked with making his first career start on national television against one of the league's three best defenses). Things are heating up in the WRBL as the top two (Ryan & Andy) take on each other but, without our Saints active. SNEEN faces Alec with 9 of Sneen's 17 players inactive for the week (phone-in week?). Nick and Scott battle and the loser will probably be forced with commissioner duties next season. All that is nice but, don't let the three other far more intense matchups distract you from the fact that Darrin Aschebrook blew a 96-point lead to Cole Walters and a bunch of players Cole no longer owns in our championship game last year.
