Wisconsin Rapids Bro League 2021 Summary + Week 16 Results

Wisconsin Rapids Bro League

Our Seventh Official Season of blaming Cole Walters for this all being one whole, big thing.

Congratulations to Nick Zurawski, owner of Scott's Many Endeavors on winning the 2021 Wisconsin Rapids Bro League by a score of 144.94 - 116.68 over Darrin Aschebrook's Team ChowHounds. If this congratulatory post seems almost as underwhelming as the completion of the 1989 Back To The Future video game on the original Nintendo console, just remember that it's the rise and grind nature of sports that keeps us coming back every year with hope and optimism. Yes, the Shelby trophy was more than "just a piece of metal" like how Rob Manfred disregarded his entire league's purpose. Unfortunately, there is still a bit of truth to that statement in the very literal sense. To our benefit, Nick has kept this league going by at least making it feel like our wins mean more than that. The aura of our trophy also kept us coming back together to draft or at least communicate with each other on a regular basis in a way that sadly, four 2021 owners no longer felt was necessary in their lives. To each their own as escapism is escapism and I hope they have filled up their time spent on this league building relationships anew and can in time, reflect fondly on the WRBL if they can even remember what it was called in the future (Evan Moon did not). So, I've congratulated Z on his win, thanked him for continuing to be the "evil" commissioner going into our eighth official season. Is there anything else he needed or can I stop bowing at the altar? Good. NFL teams get their little off-season of fun with a trophy but almost instantly, it's back to the day-to-day grind with  no emphasis on in-the-moment reflection on what you've accomplished. Some might find the reward in that too understated to set themselves up for possible disappointment, for the rest of us? There's the thrill of the hunt.

What-ifs
1 - Starting WR Tyler Lockett (26.0) over WR Mike Evans (5.4) would have given Andy a 1.56-point deficit win over Nick after QB Lamar Jackson's lost fumble cost Nick 2 points in overtime on Monday Night Football.

2 - Sneen could have beaten Nick by .08 with WR Mike Williams (22.1) in his lineup over WR Allen Robinson (10.4).

3 - If Ryan would have started RB James Robinson (25.4) over WR Amari Cooper (5.6), he would have beaten Darrin by 1.66.

4 - If Andy would have kept Austin Ekeler (29.5) instead of Antonio Gibson (15.5), he would have sacrificed a later pick (12th round instead of 8th) and gotten the much-needed win over 4-0 Darrin.

5 - If Aaron Donald didn't exist, Drew Brees would have played all 16 games in 2020 and Russell Wilson would continue his consecutive starts streak into week six.

6 - If Andy would have started RB Damien Harris (17.8) over RB Antonio Gibson (4.4), he'd have beaten Hoefs by 12.06.

7 - If Sneen started TE Hunter Henry (10.3) over TE Mark Andrews (7.8), he would have defeated Hoefs and improved to having first in the Tanner Glaza Division.

8 -  If Andy would have started WR Tyler Lockett (26.2) over WR Kadarius Toney (7.36), he'd have ended Nick's undefeated, eight-game winning streak.

9 - If Nathan benches WR CeeDee Lamb (4.3) in favor of WR Hunter Renfrow (17.9), Darrin loses his fourth in a row.

10 - If Pat Freiermuth doesn't fumble the football with 8 seconds left in the Steelers-Lions game, the Lions might be on the path to 0-17 and the Steelers could be tied for first in the AFC North.

11 - If Titans' RB Dontrell Hilliard doesn't fumble into the end zone and either A. Stays up and scores or B. falls down, leading to another play on offense for Tennessee, Ryan Tannehill quite possibly scores 4.12 more points. That would have been enough for Todd's Plan to stay realistically alive in the playoff hunt, only two games behind Darrin instead of the 4.0 GB that currently stands.

12 - If Andy would have started WR Van Jefferson (18.3) over WR Mike Evans (4.6), he'd have beaten Cole by 1.08.

13 - If Sneen Machine RB Darrell Henderson were declared inactive, Sneen might have been forced to dig in free agency for a FLEX option (or he could have just started the underwhelming 3.6 points of WR DeVonta Smith) and he could have replaced that 0.0 with somebody that could have cut into that 9.38-point loss to Cole.

14 - If Andy would have started WR Mike Evans at the FLEX position over RB Darrel Williams, he'd have beaten Big Nick Energy by 7.78 points.

15 - If we'd have waited another week to start the playoffs, maybe some players that regularly show up (the Buccaneer, Cardinal and Bengal players to be exact) may have shown up for the playoffs? (TBD).

16 - What if I could actually meet a deadline? Maybe then the Aschebrooks would still be in the league come WRBL 2022.

End-of-season Awards
WRBL Rookie of the Year - RB Najee Harris (Cole Walters)
Jeffrey Becker - USA TODAY Sports
Steelers RB Najee Harris led the Bro League in fantasy points scored by a 2021 rookie with 261.6 points for Cole's playoff participation.

WRBL Draft Bust of the Year - #23 overall pick WR Julio Jones (Ryan Dougherty)
Andy Lyons - Getty Images
Injuries are a part of the risk in taking many players in fantasy football and Jones was a prime example of that in 2021 BUT, even without lingering uncertainty Julio at pick #23 was a bet that never payed off in Tennessee.

The Waiver Wonder of the Year - WR Jaylen Waddle (Cole Walters)
Christopher Hanewinckel - USA TODAY Sports
After an all too swift release by Ryan, Cole swooped in and stockpiled many Dolphins with Waddle as the most notable and earliest pickup that carried him into the postseason.

WRBL Comeback Player of the Year - QB Joe Burrow (Alec Swanson)
NBCSports
"I'm all better now" was all Alec needed to hear from Joe Burrow en route to a playoff berth with the Super Bowl runner-up fully recovered from his 2020 Torn ACL and MCL.

Zero of the Year - Scott Aschebrook

MVP (Chosen by league champion): WR Deebo Samuel (Nick Zurawski)
USA TODAY Sports
In a season that saw him play a majority of the games for once and split between explosive YAC at WR and averaging 6.2 YPC as the Niners' #2 RB, Samuel was shockingly consistent. Perhaps this photo is a preview of 2022 Week one 👀.

See you Week 1, 2022!
