Bro...

Remember when defenses used to be a thing? The only thing we lost with no NFL preseason seems to be the ability for teams to stop one another and this trend in football isn't just limited to the NFL. The big, bad, defense-heavy, conservative SEC in college football? Well, they had final scores of 41-38, 45-41, 44-21 and 63-48 last week. Clearly not being able to practice fully as a team all offseason without limitations due to COVID-19 has harmed the defensive side of the ball more than offenses that can just draw something exquisite on paper, follow the routes and deliver excitement consistently. Suddenly everybody is playing Big 12 football and us fantasy owners are perfectly okay with that as it's led to all-time highs in fantasy scoring. Eventually, the weather and schemes will catch up and we'll be back to typical football results but, I can't say I hate watching football on arcade mode either.

Hilary Scheinuk
LSU Defensive Coordinator Bo Pelini isn't used to offenses that don't run for 3.0 yards per carry every down (see: Big Ten) and it's cost LSU a chance at a repeat championship.

The only thing harder to follow than the NFL schedule this year has been the "flapdoodle" nonsense that is the Christy Fichtner All-Stars' Running Back situation. After draft day, I was set with three starters (Joe Mixon, Austin Ekeler and Le'Veon Bell). Before kickoff on week 1, news trickled out that the Jaguars placed RB Devine Ozigbo on IR so, I hopped on UDFA James Robinson thanks to Cole Walters and friend of the league, Gabe Stoltz openly bragging him up on Twitter. Thankfully, Robinson is now the one constant in my lineup that should still be there come week 17 as he's outperformed all but 8 running backs in fantasy. One of those running backs, I added after week 2's Christian McCaffrey injury, Carolina backup RB Mike Davis. Once Bell was temporarily IR'ed before week 2, there was a hole to fill even with the emergence of Antonio Gibson over Peyton Barber in Washington's backfield. Once Zack Moss went down in week 3, Devin Singletary SHOULD have burst through for more fantasy production with more touches but, that never materialized into top-notch fantasy production. Even with Singletary not able to separate himself from Moss, I was still confident enough in my suddenly seemingly stacked storage of backs that I dealt Joe Mixon (huge volume guy but the productivity seems inconsistent behind a terrible offensive line) for another receiver (Diontae Johnson, now OUT with a back injury after one -2 yard catch). I was so overconfident in my backfield that I even dumped Le'Veon Bell the week the Titans game was postponed so that I could add my emergency tight end Chris Herndon. Thankfully, that move didn't cost me more than any production out of the TE slot for that week because six days later, I gave up on Brandin Cooks (before his breakthrough game of course) for now-active RB Le'Veon Bell. The NFL moves fast though and after one very "meh" game for the Jets, Bell talked his way out of Adam Gase's torture dungeon and now, Clyde Edwards-Helaire owners roll their eyes at the nuisance that is his new Chiefs' backfield mate, Le'Veon Bell. Time will tell just what the hell the best offense in football looks like with a former first-round fantasy talent trying to rebound his career at 28. One thing is certain and that is that my stash of running backs isn't done being shuffled as it is the most fluid situation in fantasy football outside of the NFL schedule in relation to virus outbursts.

The WRBL standings are still pretty jammed tight with Darrin Aschebrook a surprise front-runner as the lone 4-1 despite multiple games missed by all-pro WR Davante Adams. Now, Adams returns to a lineup featuring blast from the fantasy past names like Tom Brady, Todd Gurley and as of publication date, Adrian Peterson this week. Team Chowhounds' 171 point showing this past week was highlighted by a two touchdown performance from Adam Thielen and another strong, 17.6 showing from Mark Andrews. Sorry Cole, there wasn't supposed to be a 96-point comeback this time around. Near the bottom of the standings, optimism is not spreading around SNEEN MACHINE or Rise From The Asch3s headquarters as both are stuck on one victory after five weeks. Sneen's most recent loss falling to The Golladay Inn must have been especially demoralizing as even the last-minute addition of David Montgomery to the Machine's lineup and all the math I had to personally do after realizing he was on Tyler's team still couldn't result in a win. Ryan improves to 3-2 and he holds the points advantage in the Shooter McGavin Division over yours truly. Scott's bye week QB Dak Prescott sadly broke his ankle and football fan's hearts on a run against the Giants on Sunday so, it's safe to assume that Scott won't be turning down Aaron Rodgers' rightful place in the starting lineup going forward.

USA TODAY Sports
Andy Dalton will now take over under center for the NFC East-leading 2-3 Dallas Cowboys.

Next week, Nick Zurawski looks for any sign of life resembling the Lamar Jackson of 2019 that convinced Nick to feature him as a no-brainer starting QB every week. He'll be giving the Ravens' QB another start, this time against league rookie Nathaniel Hoefs, who has zero name preferences so we'll just call him "Rookie" for the remainder of 2020. Nick's week 5 loss came down to the wire as the Titans threw an unnecessary and uncalled for touchdown pass to put away the Bills on Tuesday Night Football. The TD toss also put Nick's bye week hopes away as it was enough for a 21-point showing out of Jonnu Smith and a 6.6-point advantage for my team over Nick's bottom-four finishing Free Chiquita. Jonnu and my 0RB approach take on Ryan's The Golladay Inn, now featuring Kenny Golladay! after the Lions' Bye. The winner of our match will decide who holds the Shooter McGavin crown for at least one week. Cole made the right choice dealing for Phillip Lindsay with Melvin Gordon making poor off-field choices and now in doubt for this Sunday's Bronco-Patriot game. Along with Myles Gaskin and the 12-point potential hookups between Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins, Cole's team is gaining momentum and is favored by 14.5 points over Scott's faltering Rise From The Asch3s. Alec kind of needed a win this week because things do not look any easier this week against the Steven Nett Division leader Team Chowhounds and the Tax Paying Homeowner has a game to make up in the standings already. Hopefully all of the games get played and everybody stays healthy going into week seven because I'm tired of discussing rule changes in all of my leagues and once baseball is done, football will be all that's left in 2020.

Oh, and Sneen is on bye this week. Nobody cares? Ok, cool.
