Welp: Week 14 Opinions on College Football

I'm going to start this off with my thoughts on the top 5 (Keeping it very short this week) and how they should be ranked. I will then follow up with some thoughts on teams that have been seriously altered in my viewpoint due to wins or losses. There were a TON of changes this past weekend involving teams I was very high on losing in ways that were almost indescribable. Missed field goals returned for touchdowns, losing games in which you score 52 points and some of the most baffling defensive audibles you'll ever see made. Without further ado...

#1. Florida State (actually ranked 1st)  : This team has put up some large numbers on good defenses. Although Florida looked like they were tanking (They do realize that's not a thing in college, right?), that's still a very nice defense that Winston & co. manhandled.

#2. Ohio State (2): You can say all you want about Auburn being more deserving of playing in the BCS Championship but you can not AND I REPEAT CAN NOT insult the Buckeyes by saying they haven't earned it. Ohio State is one of THREE remaining teams in all of college football (Hi Northern Illinois!) without a loss and no matter how impressive Auburn has been recently, you can not just dismiss this team's accomplishments.

#3. Auburn (3): This offense is just straight-up sexy with their running schemes. It's exciting football and it works, the best kind there is. That one loss still counts against them.

#4. Alabama (4): That's one way to lose a game... After the majority of two seasons at #1 in the ranks, Alabama has finally lost and roll Tide rolled down to 4th in mine and the AP rankings.

#5. Missouri (5): Great job by the offensive line paving the way for Henry Josey's game-winning 57-yard touchdown run. The defense is great and the offense is above average. Quite an underrated team we have here.

THEY WON?!
Michigan State: Not necessarily surprised they won but I was finally proven by this Spartan squad that is now on fire. Their offense is very average and uneventful but the way they shut down the Minnesota Golden Gophers this weekend (14-3 for those who don't already know) was an eye-opener for everyone that said "This defense is real and it is spectacular". AP Rank: 10th I'd have them: 7th.

Arizona State: Before you scream about this team and how they should have three losses, let me tell you about some things. QB Taylor Kelly is actually a serious candidate for a late-round draft pick and RB Marion Grice is very nice (Watch out Dr. Seuss). I believed in their defense but now the Arizona State offense is showing glimpses of how good they can be. AP Rank: 11th I'd have them: 14th

Oregon: The Ducks didn't seem to care once they lost a crucial game to Stanford but after two rough weeks and a full 3.75 quarters of struggling, Josh Huff made an incredible game-winning touchdown against Oregon State in the "Highlighter Bowl". Thankfully, they still care and we'll still be getting fun football games from this team. AP Rank: 12th I'd have them: 12th

THEY LOST?!
Texas A&M: I guess I didn't realize what a difficult schedule the Aggies had. Johnny Football has now lost four games this season and no matter how flashy his stats continue to be, this team really shouldn't be ranked due to a very bad defense. Also, please sadly eliminate Manziel from your Heisman discussions. It's unrealistic at this point. AP Rank: 22nd I'd have them: Unranked

Wisconsin: It was only a matter of time until the Badgers got an official second loss. Now that it's happened Badger fans can drop the bitterness of the Arizona State game and the "blame the referees for our loss" card. It was valid while it lasted but the loss to Penn State made the coaching staff and defense look lost. Speaking of lost, are we still certain Joel Stave isn't just a very confused Punter? AP Rank: 21st I'd have them: 19th

Fresno State: Ah yes, my favorite team to watch at 1 AM and usually the only option late at night. I'm now a huge fan of Derek Carr after some of the ridiculous stats he's put up (519 yards and 6 TD's this week vs. San Jose State). The big problem with Fresno State appears to be it's defense however, as the Bulldogs lost a thriller to the San Jose State Spartans 52-62. Quite the disappointment as I really believed this offense could make some elite defenses look average at best (Looking at you Alabama). RIP Derek Carr @ Fresno State era. You will be missed once you finish beating Utah State on CBS (10 PM EST) next Saturday.

Heisman Watch
#1. ASDFGHJKL;"!?: No seriously, who is it?

#1. QB Jordan Lynch (Northern Illinois): It's only dumb if it doesn't work. I decided to go with the safest and riskiest pick here. It's the safest because he's going to run for 2,000 while also looking like a legitimate Quarterback. It's also the riskiest pick because they play in the Mid-American Conference! (MAC). They've literally played the equivalent of the bad-guy shooters in movies like The Expendables who never shoot anyone dead but still cause some minor annoyances. The one reason I give Jordan Lynch this award is no matter how incompetent the bad guys may be, the audience still leaves entertained as the good guys win every time.

That's close enough to a Heisman pose for me.

#2. QB Jameis Winston (Florida State): He'll win once he stops (reportedly) raping people. In all seriousness, Heisman committee voters have already turned in their votes and the case against Jameis Winston won't be solved until post-Heisman voting. Even if the voters do give it to Winston, what if he's proven guilty? They'll have to give it to someone else and that would be the most intriguing Heisman vote ever. He's the obvious #1 right now but the accusations will lose him a large amount of #1 votes.

#3. RB Andre Williams (Boston College): 2,102 yards is miles ahead of most of the top-discussed Running Backs but after an injury in BC's latest game, Williams' candidacy is in jeopardy. Let's hope he doesn't miss any time and runs for 400 in his next game to clear up this race.

#4. QB A.J. McCarron (Alabama): Even after a heart-breaker of a loss, It's still possible that the voters give McCarron the lifetime achievement award for consistent winning and game-managing. He is having his best season yet after all...

#5. QB Bryce Petty (Baylor): One loss and suddenly this team gets no love at all. Bryce Petty is still having a very surprising season and even though there are only 4 names that are actually in the discussion anymore, Petty has been excellent at passing, running, managing a potent offense, and avoiding turnovers.

And yes, Johnny Manziel is missing. 4 losses for a QB basically kills your Heisman chances no matter how much you're doing with very little around you.
